How to Send USDT Safely: A Checklist Before You Transfer

Check the network, address, fee, and any required memo before confirming a USDT transfer. This checklist reduces common errors without promising zero risk.

Pause before tapping “Send”

Blockchain transfers can be difficult to reverse after confirmation. A short pre-transfer check can catch a wrong network or address before it becomes a confirmed transaction.

The checklist

  1. Verify the recipient: Use an address from a trusted source. If it arrived in an unexpected message, confirm it through a separate channel.
  2. Match the network on both sides: The sending network must be one the receiving address or service supports.
  3. Check token identity: The USDT ticker alone does not prove a token is genuine; use Tether’s official network information.
  4. Review amount and fee: Compare the amount sent, the fee, and the expected net amount received.
  5. Check extra fields: Some services require a memo or tag. Follow the recipient’s current instructions exactly.
  6. Verify the app or website: Open a wallet from its official app or a saved bookmark—not an ad or a message link.
  7. Consider a small test: It may limit the size of an input mistake at a new destination, but it cannot guarantee delivery or recovery.

Keep secrets private

A recipient does not need your recovery phrase or private key. Never enter either on a website or send it to “support.” If someone pressures you to act immediately or promises to recover funds in exchange for wallet details, stop and verify through an independent official channel.

A simple example

Hypothetical example: if a message gives you a new address and urges you to act quickly, confirm the address and network with the recipient through another channel. Checking only the first and last characters is not enough.

Key takeaway

Review the recipient, network, amount, and fee together before confirming. A small test is not a substitute for verification.
