How to Read a Stablecoin Reserve Report
Check a report’s date, scope, definitions, and assurance language; one headline balance cannot answer every question about a reserve report.
Start with the date and scope
A report may show balances at a specific date or describe information across a period. Check which token or currency it covers, who issued the report, and the period included. Do not assume a report about one token covers every product of an organization.
Check definitions and methods
Read what the document calls a “reserve,” whether it presents assets and liabilities, how it classifies assets, and what procedures were performed. Reports can vary in detail, publication frequency, and presentation; a report’s title alone does not explain its procedures or limits.
Do not infer more than the document says
A published report does not automatically establish that every holder can redeem immediately or on identical terms. Read redemption terms separately and note the data date, qualifications, and limitations. An issuer transparency page can point to documents, but it is not a substitute for reading them.
A simple example
If a page reports a balance at quarter-end, it tells you what was published for that date and stated scope. By itself, it does not tell you what changed afterward or what would happen if you requested redemption.
Key takeaway
Check the date, scope, definitions, assets and liabilities, type of examination, and redemption terms. Separate what the report states from conclusions it does not establish.
